Lymphedema is best described as a breakdown of the Lymphatic system within the body, causing Lymphatic fluid that would usually move around to build up. Typically when we move, the Lymphatic system will push the lymphatic fluid around our body subconsciously with minimal effort on our part so long as we maintain regular movement throughout the day. The lymphatic system is our body’s ‘sewerage system’. It maintains fluid levels in our body tissues by removing all fluids that leak out of our blood vessels. Breakdown or altered function of this system does not allow the fluid to move around as it shown, thus causing an excessive build up known as Lymphedema.

Our nursing staff at Nightingale Home Care are well versed in the maintenance and treatment of Lymphedema, attending clients homes to assist with the Lymphedema wraps, assessment of the skin and overall presentation of the effected areas. It is important that the effected areas are regularly checked including skin integrity as breakdown in the skin is common and can lead to a further increase in treatment if not addressed.

Having our qualified, regular nursing staff make house calls as frequently as required, can help ease your mind about struggling with these wraps yourself.

We will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in order to properly care for your lymphedema, providing treatment plans, and management goals for between our visits.

Our nursing staff service the Bellarine peninsula, Surfcoast and Greater Geelong areas on a daily basis, with many nurses available to advise, monitor, educate and assist with all your Lymphedema needs. Contact us on 03 5223 1909 if you think we may be able to assist.
